Hybrid Contact Lenses

Hard or Soft Contact Lenses? How about Both in the Same Lens?

A combined hard and soft material in one lens has been developed in an attempt to deliver the best contact lens wearing experience- consistent vision, comfort and healthy eyes. Duette HD contact lens is made of a central hard material surrounded by a soft material skirt to provide the best performance from each material. This has also been called a hybrid lens because of the two different materials.

Traditionally, hard contact lenses have offered better vision compared to soft contact lenses, but are noticeably uncomfortable making it difficult to maintain long term comfort. Soft contact lenses provide much better comfort, but vision clarity and consistency can fluctuate compared to hard lenses.

Overall, the Duette HD lens offers:

  • Crisper vision
  • More consistent vision throughout the wearing time
  • Excellent vision at night-less haloes, ghosting and glare around lights

While the Duette HD lens could benefit all contact lens wearers, our Optometrists have found that some specific contact lens wearing groups notice a greater performance difference compared to their regular hard and soft contact lenses. These include:

    Contact Lenses
  • Contact lens patients with higher degrees of astigmatism.
  • Contact lens patients who experience vision problems in low light conditions such as night driving, dawn/dusk conditions and poorly lit indoor rooms.
  • Contact lens patients who stare at computer screens for long periods of time.
