Eye Wear: Lens Technology-Building Better Glasses

Another happy eye care and eye wear client As in other areas of our lives, technological advances are taking place in lenses to deliver better performance in your glasses. Lens companies have introduced new products and continue to improve current technologies to enhance your vision experience. Read more…

Lighter and Thinner Lenses

High Index Lenses The development and adaptation of plastic polymer technology has led to new materials for lenses that continue to become lighter, more impact resistant and ultra-thin. One of these adaptations is a plastic polymer that was originally developed for the military as the material for helicopter and fighter jet cockpits to provide visual armour.

Improved Optics of Lenses

This is the adaptation of high-definition television (HDTV) technology into your glasses to allow you to see your world in high definition. These lenses provide superior resolution due to the latest digital technology that produces more usable points of vision throughout the lens. You will notice that both your central and peripheral vision will be clearer. Digital technology is available in single vision and progressive lenses.

Personalization of Lenses

As the lens technology has become more advanced, the proper fitting is necessary for the lens to work at its best. This is the same as sitting in front of your plasma, LCD, or LED television-the picture is clearest when seated at the right viewing angles. Our optical staff will take extra measurements to make sure your viewing angles through the lenses will give you the clearest vision.

Curved Lenses

Wrap around frames are now very popular and until recently, only certain prescriptions could fit into these frames because of noticeable optical distortions when the lenses became too curved at higher prescriptions. New curved lenses are now available in single vision and progressive lens prescriptions that reduce distortions in the center and periphery of the lens.

Improved Lens Coatings

Multi-layered lens coatings are also a major contributor to improved lens performance. These layers are placed on top of each other to enhance your vision, and lens care/appearance. Impact of lenses with anti-reflection coating

  • Scratch resistant coating-getting closer to scratch proof, but not quite there yet!
  • Anti-reflective coating-also getting closer to eliminating 100% of annoying reflections and increases light directly to the eye to improve vision.
  • Water repellent coating-prevents water tarnishing of the lenses and makes lens cleaning quicker and easier.
  • Ultraviolet protection-helps protect the eyes from eyestrain and early onset cataracts, macular degeneration.

The best news is that many of these technologies can be combined to give you the clearest and most comfortable vision available. More about Nikon coatings
