3D Entertainment
Calgary Optometry Centre answers common eye care questions:
3D technology has become extremely popular in movies, television and gaming systems. Long term studies have not proven any permanent harm to the eyes and 3D technology is safe for adults and children. In fact, 3D media has helped to detect vision disorders that people didn't know they had.
About 30% of the population report that they have problems with 3D entertainment. They have experienced:
- Blurred vision
- Nausea/motion sickness
- Eyestrain/eye fatigue
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Lack of 3D
These problems may be an indicator of a Binocular Vision Disorder. Binocular vision is the part of the vision system that helps to determine whether you have a proper 3D vision experience. Even if you have 20/20 vision, if the binocular vision system is not working properly, you will not have a comfortable 3D experience.
Normally, the binocular vision system makes sure that the two eyes are accurately aligned and sending equal focusing signals to the brain. Eye alignment and eye focusing problems are not always obvious to the patient and are usually not detected in regular doctor exams or school eye testing.
If you have experienced any of the above problems with 3D media, make an appointment with any of our doctors to test for and treat any binocular vision disorders.
