Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are now available for almost everyone!
Contact lens technology and advances have made it possible for almost anyone to wear contact lenses. Lenses are available for all vision correction types, ages, lifestyle needs and replacement schedules.
Vision Correction
Contact lenses are now available from low to very high power needs for the following vision problems:
- Myopia (near sightedness)
- Hyperopia (far sightedness)
- Astigmatism (oval shaped front surface of the eye)
- Presbyopia (need for reading glasses, bifocals or progressive lenses)
- Keratoconus (extreme astigmatism)
In most cases, contact lenses can replace the glasses that you may be wearing for these various types of vision correction, and may provide better vision than glasses.
Age
Age in itself is not a limiting factor in wearing contact lenses. Calgary Optometry Centre optometrists have successfully fit all ages from grade school children to seniors.
Many people still think that children and teens are too young for contact lenses, when in fact they are usually better for contact lenses because they tend to have healthier eyes and are usually more motivated. Lifestyle Needs
As mentioned earlier, contact lenses can potentially replace glasses on a day to day basis. If you don't want to replace your glasses, part time contact lens wear can be used for lifestyle considerations such as:
- Social occasions and special events
- Sporting activities
- Water activities
- Vacation/holiday activities
- Coloured contact lenses to change eye colour
Replacement Schedule
Various lens types are available to balance convenience, healthy eyes and cost. The main types of lenses available are:
- Daily disposable (fresh new lens for each wear)
- Two week disposable
- One month disposable
- Continuous wear (24/7) one month disposable
- Conventional (only one pair)
